Chris Jericho is truly a veteran in the pro wrestling industry, whose career has spanned more than 30 years. He spent the majority of those years in WWE, where Jericho became a household name. A big difference between AEW and WWE is the fact that promos in AEW are unscripted.

Jericho eventually debuted in AEW over four years ago and became the first AEW World Champion, carrying the company through its initial year. Jericho joining AEW was seen as a very big deal in the pro wrestling world and remains a big star in the company even now.

One big selling point of the company is the lack of writers, so there are no scripts that talent have to memorize and recite during a promo in front of a live audience. Instead, they are free to express themselves in a way they deem fit.

While speaking with Fox 4, the former AEW World Champion talked about AEW’s promos being unscripted in nature, stating that the company is a little bit like the Wild West. He also admitted that unscripted promos in AEW aren’t always a good thing.

I think it’s just a little bit more freewheeling, a little more wild west. We’re kind of more in control of our own destinies here. There’s not a lot of outside input into what we’re doing, which in some ways is good, in some ways, it’s not so good. It depends on the performer, on the wrestler.

But I think that, people can feel that when they watch it’s a little bit more of a party type of vibe, a little bit more wacky, a little more crazy, which equals more fun. I think that’s something that you can always say about AEW, is (that) it does go against the grain a little bit, it is a little bit more of a vigilante, a little more maverick, which makes it a little more exciting.”

Vince McMahon also wanted Chris Jericho to get out of his AEW contract. Regardless, Chris Jericho is more than happy working in AEW, as he is more focused on creating a legacy for himself in the company and nothing more.
