CM Punk mixed it up with plenty of AEW stars in the ring, but he had his own feuds outside the squared circle. The Second City Savior had beef with The Elite, Jack Perry, Ryan Nemeth, and a few other members of the AEW roster during his time. He also got into it with William Regal as well, but that confrontation wasn’t a big deal for Regal.

We previously reported that CM Punk had a tense moment backstage in AEW after Punk refused to shake Regal’s hand. Punk called Regal a Triple H stooge, and then they moved on from there.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that this confrontation with William Regal and CM Punk did happen, because Regal told people about it. That being said, he kept it to himself for months, and passed it off as not that big of a deal.

“Anyway, whatever it was, at the time, Regal didn’t even tell anybody. He told friends of his months later, and when he told them, he made it seem like it wasn’t a big deal. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a big deal, but that’s what he was saying that it wasn’t a big deal.”

William Regal’s AEW departure had nothing to do with CM Punk. It had everything to do with Triple H taking over the helm in WWE, and he had a life-changing position offered to him.

It was also said that Tony Khan is believed to have cancelled a meeting between CM Punk and The Elite. It’s anyone’s guess if that meeting could have fixed this whole messy situation.

Val Venis chimed in and said that Tony Khan should have “grown pair” instead of firing CM Punk. Now, we live in a world where AEW is Punkless, and all they can do is move on from this point on. When it comes to William Regal, he’s been quite happy back in WWE for months.
