GUNTHER is still enjoying a historic run as Intercontinental Champion, but he won’t defend that title at Payback. The Ring General made a comment that he didn’t know if he even had a match in Pittsburgh, and it seems that the company is holding off until next week’s RAW for that to go down, and there is a reason for that.
GUNTHER will defend the Intercontinental Title against Chad Gable next week on WWE RAW. That was a bit of a surprise for fans who expected a match at Payback instead. The company could have booked the match at that show, but Triple H decided against it.
BWE was asked behind their private X account why WWE is holding off on the Intercontinental Title match. The answer is very simple, because it all boils down to time.
“Triple H doesn’t want PLE’s to be overbooked.”
WWE Payback is still shaping up to be a nice show, even without an Intercontinental Title match. Of course, GUNTHER’s fans would love to see him on every premium live event, but his IC Title match against Chad Gable will certainly give those fans a reason to watch WWE RAW next week.
The bigger question is who will take the Intercontinental Title from GUNTHER. He’s already had a streak that could be argued as the best of all time. At this point, we will have to see how things pan out for GUNTHER and his Intercontinental Title run.
