Sami Zayn has been working in WWE for a decade now and when it comes to perfecting storylines – Zayn truly was in a league of his own for a long time. His involvement in The Bloodline angle catapulted him to a level he had never reached before. That said, it appears Zayn explained why he keeps his personal life private.

Sami Zayn challenged Roman Reigns for his titles at Elimination Chamber in his hometown of Montreal. Zayn had the crowd in the palm of his hand as they all cheered for him to beat Reigns. While that did not happen, Zayn ultimately won the hearts of many.

Before his match with Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber, fans learned more about his family with his wife taking part in an interview and even making a front-row appearance during the main event match in Montreal.

While speaking on Ryan Satin’s Out of Character podcast, Sami Zayn talked about his family being a central point in his storyline. Zayn explained why he keeps his personal life private.

Yeah, I was apprehensive for a very long time. And I still am. I’m still an overall pretty private person. I don’t know, something about it feels wrong to me. I guess this is a layered question.

First and foremost, my wife, my child, any family member I have, they didn’t sign up for this, I did. So over the last 20 years, I built a certain armor to where you could hear certain negative comments and you can kind of deflect. They bounce right off you. And even then, every now and then, you’ll come across something where it gets to you.

There’s the other aspect. Not everything needs to be commodified in a way that I’m sort of using it to leverage for popularity.

Like, ‘Oh, here, let me give you a window into my personal life so that you can like me more, so you can connect with me more.’

I don’t know, I’m a bit old school in that. ‘Here’s the performance. Here’s what I’m presenting to you, and that’s what you get.’

Whether you like or dislike me will hopefully be based by and large on what I’m presenting or anything else.”

With Kevin Owens still out of action due to a legitimate injury, it is not known what WWE will have planned for Owens and Sami Zayn as the Undisputed Tag Team Champions. We’ll have to see what will become of the two in the coming weeks.
