Fans were eagerly waiting for CM Punk’s return on the debut episode of Collision, as it marked the first time he appeared on AEW television since All Out last year. CM Punk has been a regular in-ring competitor and fans have enjoyed watching him every week. That said, it appears Punk denied that AEW Collision is competing with SummerSlam this week.

The Second City Saint has competed in several matches since his return back in June and his most recent feud with Ricky Starks is already beginning to gain fan attention as well.

The WWE SummerSlam Premium Live Event will be taking place this Saturday, which is also when AEW Collision will air. This is the first time the show will go face to face with a WWE event since it debuted back in June.

While speaking to Sports Illustrated, CM Punk addressed the two events taking place at the same time. The Second City Saint denied that AEW Collision is competing with SummerSlam this week.

“We are not competing with SummerSlam. We are going to go up against college football soon. We have already been up against monster UFC cards every single Saturday. We are not competing with them. We are competing with what we did last Saturday. I am competing with who I was yesterday as a human being and a pro wrestler, and we, as the Collision team, are competing with what we did last Saturday. That’s always going to be what we are striving to do, and I think that’s an important message for the fans to understand.

Collision is on a bad night for television, but the trade off is that I think it’s a lot easier to sell a ticket to a Saturday night show than it is on a Wednesday or Monday or Friday. I knew it was going to be an uphill battle, but we absolutely love the challenge. I think we’ve outdone ourselves so far.”

We will have to wait and see whether AEW Collision will manage to secure respectable ratings despite WWE SummerSlam airing at the same time. After all, CM Punk is very confident about the show in the end.
