MJF is one of the best heels in the game, and this week on AEW Dynamite he proved that in a big way. The Salt of the Earth slapped the microphone out of Renee Paquette’s hands during a backstage interview, but that wasn’t the original plan at all.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that MJF actually went against the original plan when he slapped that microphone out of Renee Paquette’s hands. In fact, Adam Cole was supposed to get involved, but they didn’t want fans to interpret a spoiler.

The segment where MJF slapped the mic out of Renee Paquette’s hands was not the original plan. There was a promo segment involving everyone in the match and Britt Baker was involved. It ended with Baker saying that even if he wins, he’s not going to hold the title long Bay Bay. The idea is that Cole gets the next big title chase against whoever wins the match. But there was something about it that was deemed not good and instead of doing it again, they changed to what they did. Maybe the decision was not to let people know Cole was getting the next shot meaning people would figure MJF was winning, although everyone figures MJF is winning as there was 50-to-1 odds favoring him

MJF is set to defend the AEW World Title in a four-way pillars match against Jungle Boy, Darby Allin, and Sammy Guevara at Double or Nothing. That match might be a huge gamble for AEW to put those four in a main event together, but the company also doesn’t want to give any bit of a possible spoiler for the match.

We will have to see how AEW Double or Nothing pans out on May 28th. Obviously, they will have the pro wrestling world’s attention, and that will also cap off a long weekend for pro wrestling. Impact Wrestling’s Under Siege event is on May 26th, WWE Night of Champions is on May 27th, and then Tony Khan’s company will conclude the weekend with Double or Nothing on pay-per-view.

What’s your take on MJF slapping the microphone out of Renee Paquette’s hands on AEW Dynamite? Was that the right move? Sound off in the comments!
