Gunther, the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the millennium, has stamped his authority over WWE’s mid-card scene for almost a year now. Gunther has been champion for so long now that it is hard to imagine a time when he wasn’t the Intercontinental Champion.

The Ring General captured the Intercontinental Championship from Ricochet on the June 10, 2022 episode of SmackDown ending his 98-day reign. Since then, he has been busy fending off challengers like Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, and Xavier Woods.

The former Intercontinental Champion Ricochet recently appeared on the Out of Character podcast with Ryan Satin where he discussed his Intercontinental Title reign and said that he was “pretty happy” with it.

“It felt great. I mean, to even be a part of the lineage that is the Intercontinental Championship is great to be able to etch your name in that history is amazing. I’m still fairly new here compared to a lot of the people who’ve been here for a decade-plus. I think there’s still more time to grow and there’s still more time to have those opportunities, but what I have had already, I was pretty happy with it.”

It looks like Ricochet is out of the Intercontinental Title picture for now as he has been busy teaming with Braun Strowman as of late. The two men have formed an unlikely alliance that has been entertaining to watch.

While Ricochet seems to have moved on from his Intercontinental Title loss, Gunther has been unstoppable as the champion. He has faced and defeated some of the best wrestlers in WWE, and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Gunther has made the Intercontinental Championship his own, and has established himself as one of the most dominant and respected champions in WWE history. Who can stop Gunther’s reign of terror? Will anyone be able to dethrone the Ring General? Only time will tell, but for now, Gunther is the undisputed king of the mid-card.

What are your thoughts on Gunther’s historic Intercontinental Championship run? Do you think he deserves to be the champion for so long? Who do you want to see challenge him next? Share your opinions in the comments below!
