LA Knight was known as Eli Drake for years in Impact Wrestling, where he was the “namer of dummies” and he was able to work a microphone with a skill above the rest. Now that LA Knight is in WWE, it seems that the powers that be understood what he brings to the table.

Although Vince McMahon tried to change up LA Knight’s character by giving him a male model agent gimmick, Max Dupri didn’t last long for the WWE Universe. He eventually switched things up, and it didn’t take much time for Triple H to position LA Knight into a “yeah” saying WWE Superstar who fans look forward to hearing from on a weekly basis.

While speaking on The Daily Show, LA Knight was asked about his process of creating a WWE promo in the ring. LA Knight gets a roadmap of points he needs to hit, but he’s been getting a lot more creative freedom under Triple H’s watch.

“One of the big things I can remember saying at least a good 60 to 70% of the time before I walked through the curtain is I don’t know what I’m about to say when I go out there, but we’re about to find out, and it’s because I have a roadmap. I know where I’m going. I know how I’m going to start, I know how I’m going to finish, but in the middle, we’re going to weave a road, and we’re going to figure out where we go, and hopefully, it gets us where we need to go.”

LA Knight went on to explain how he gets a certain amount of freedom in his WWE promos. They have to hit a certain time point, but he has the ability to make things work in his own way.

“Usually, it does. WWE is slightly more structured but at the same time, it’s like I do have the freedom to again, where it’s like, I know where I’m going, maybe there’s a key point or two but otherwise, hey, we’ll see what we get when I come back,”

Triple H obviously understands what LA Knight brings to the table. After all, Triple H was the guy who pulled for WWE to bring him into NXT. Althought LA Knight didn’t reach the top of NXT, he isn’t backing down from anything his journey in WWE brings to the table.
