There is a prevailing perception that AEW wrestlers enjoy a significant degree of creative freedom when it comes to their on-screen characters and narrative arcs. This is exactly why a lot of pro wrestlers prefer signing with AEW since day one. That being said, not everything is given total freedom when it comes to a creative standpoint. In fact, even Malakai Black said that his creative ideas are not always processed.

Malakai Black was let go by WWE back in June 2021, after a very disappointing run on the main roster. Black eventually signed with AEW, and fans were glad he finally had a chance to truly show everyone what he could accomplish.

The leader of the House Of Black, alongside Brody King and Buddy Matthews, found some form of success in Tony Khan’s company. Despite that, many fans felt Black didn’t quite live up to his potential in AEW.

While speaking on the HardLore Stories podcast, Malakai Black addressed the amount of creative freedom he has in the company. Black revealed that his creative ideas are not always processed.

“So you said Malakai Black can be who Malakai Black wants to be and that is true to an extent. However, I do want people to understand that there is still a cooperation between myself and the powers that be.

Therefore, my ideas are not always processed the way that I would want them to be made. I want people to always understand that there is my ideas, there’s Tony’s input, and there’s QT’s input, and together we make… happen what we want to happen.

And I’m very happy with that. And it’s definitely allowed me to be me more than I’ve ever been allowed to be myself, especially on the main roster for WWE.”

Malakai Black last wrestled for AEW during the January 25 Dark: Elevation taping, where he teamed with Brody King to face Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next in store for The House Of Black.
