After taking a leave of absence from WWE in May 2022, Stephanie McMahon returned in July to take over as Co-CEO following the retirement of her father Vince McMahon amid sexual misconduct and hush money scandal. In what has been dubbed a hostile takeover, Vince McMahon instated himself and two allies, Michelle Wilson and George Barrios, into the WWE Board of Directors and pulled some strings, granting himself his former position as chairman of WWE. Stephanie announced her resignation from the position of Co-CEO after her father stepped out of retirement, reclaiming his position as chairman of WWE. This left Nick Khan as the sole CEO of the company. A prominent WWE superstar has come out to say that Stephanie McMahon was a welcome presence in the WWE.
While speaking to Nick Talbot of the San Antonio Express, Kevin Owens commented on Stephanie’s resignation as Co-CEO. Owens had nothing but words of praise for Stephanie during her tenure in WWE management. He also spoke for the people backstage when he said that he is pleased to hear that the former Co-CEO has taken out time to focus on herself.
“(Stephanie) has been nothing but amazing to me my entire time here. And I was so happy to see her more at the shows and get to be around her and get to work for her. Everybody’s also kind of happy that she gets to take this time for herself,”
One of the reasons Vince McMahon returned to the company was to spearhead negotiations for the sale of WWE media rights. Owens addressed the notions surrounding the media sale, saying that the talent at WWE is more concerned about what they do inside the ring.
“The internet will say what the internet will say, and then the reality will be what really matters. We just care about what we do in the ring. That’s what we try to do our best at.”
Comcast, Fox, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and more have been listed as possible bidders for WWE. However WWE has declined to comment further on the matter unless they deem it necessary or until negotiations are settled
Owens is currently the #1 contender for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. He is set to face off against Roman Reigns at the upcoming Royal Rumble. It remains to be seen whether he is successful at dethroning The Tribal Chief. For more updates stay tuned to Ringside News.
