King of the Ring has been one of WWE’s Big Five PPV events alongside  Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series before eventually being retired in 2002. There has been reports of bringing the illustrious event back. It seems we may finally see it come to fruition, with a progressive twist.

It seems that WWE is getting closer to actually branding an event with the Queen of the Ring idea. This comes as no real surprise, but it’s nice to see that the company filed a trademark on “WWE King and Queen of the Ring” on December 12th. It was also registered for all the typical reasons that a company would put down if they are planning an event.

“Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information.”

The most recent iteration of the King of the Ring tournament was seen in 2021 where the initial matches where held throughout RAW and Smackdown with the final matches taking place during the 2021 Crown Jewel premium live event in Saudi Arabia.

Xavier Woods and Zelina Vega are the last King of the Ring and Queen’s Crown winners. While the women had a similar tournament dubbed the Queen’s Crown tournament, this is the first time the women’s division might get a legit Queen of the Ring tournament.

Whether the event will take place on a premium live event or throughout RAW or SmackDown remains to be seen. For more updates, stay tuned to Ringside News.
