Shawn Michaels Reveals The Idea Behind New ‘Iron Survivor Match’ In WWE NXT

Shawn Michaels is regarded as one of the greatest WWE performers of all time. The Showstopper is currently using his years of knowledge towards the betterment of WWE developmental territory, NXT. Shawn recently spoke about his new creation, The Iron Survivor Challenge, and how it came about.

The Heartbreak Kid was one of the biggest draws for WWE during the 1990s and 2000s, winning multiple titles and delivering some of the greatest matches of all time. He took retirement in 2010 when he lost to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 in a ‘Career vs Streak’ match.

The two-time World champion nowadays works behind the scenes as Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, leading the charge for WWE NXT. Michaels recently introduced new type of match, known as the ‘Iron Survivor Challenge’ featuring some of the best NXT superstars and is set to take place this Saturday at NXT Deadline.

The Headliner further elaborated about his innovative idea during a media call with for the upcoming NXT Deadline event. He then elaborated on how great it is that they can try out these new ideas in NXT.

“The greatest thing about being in NXT is that we do get to try things outs … test things out from a television standpoint, programming standpoint and in this case, a match standpoint. So, you are sometimes in a miss … but then again … I love that process…so this was something for the final premium live event of the year, so come up with something …. different … again … you know and this was something the creative team and myself … we don’t get out of our room much … so this was something we eventually landed on…the inspiration clearly came from the Iron Man match …. but you can’t build on an hour…there were different aspects…..and I always like the gauntlet aspect of the matches … that was it and that’s how it came about.”

There will be two Iron Survivor Challenge matches, one for the Men’s side and the other for the women, set to take place this Saturday. The winner of the matches will receive a future title opportunity against the NXT and NXT Women’s champions.
