John Cena made a ton of money for WWE and the company realizes that. They also didn’t want to do anything to mess with their babyface cash cow.

EC3 has been known to be one of the most vocal superstars in the wrestling industry. The Control Your Narrative star has never been shy from commenting on various topics. Now, EC3 has gone on to reveal some unseen details about John Cena’s legendary clash with The Rock at WrestleMania 28.

The dream match between The Rock and John Cena was announced a year before the showdown when The Great One made his return to the WWE in 2011 after seven years and targeted the Cenation Leader for some comments made by him years ago. The Rock’s involvement cost Cena the WWE championship at WrestleMania 27, leading to The Rock challenging him for a dream showdown at the following year’s Show of Shows.

The main event at WrestleMania 28 saw the Black Adam star deliver a thunderous Rock Bottom to John Cena and sealing the victory in front of his hometown crowd of Miami. Former WWE Superstar EC3 has gone to reveal some unheard details about Cena’s desire heading into the match. EC3 spoke on The Wrestling Outlaws, stating that Cena wanted to turn heel, but wasn’t able to due to business reasons.

“The behind-the-scenes of that or the way the sausage is made with that because I have talked to him about that [John Cena] and he said the overall business on merchandise and other intangibles that weren’t direct crowd reactions or reflected in the ratings were so good and so strong with him as the top babyface. He said it would have been insane to change, and I think he wanted [to turn heel] it too,”

EC3 further stated that John Cena was completely sold with the idea of turning into a full-fledged heel for his mega showdown with The Rock at WrestleMania 28. He even claimed to have seen Big Match John’s new gear for his heel character. However, things didn’t go according to plan as they reportedly did not make sense ‘business wise.’

“Top secret info – He really wanted to go full heel for the first match with The Rock, so much so that he had gear made, and I have seen it. So it was always in his mind cause he knew. The guy could do anything; he’s super gifted and has his fingers on the pulse. Business wise it didn’t make sense; maybe that’s why they didn’t go with it,”

After their Once-in-a-lifetime clash at WrestleMania 28, The Rock and John Cena once again battled each other at the following edition of The Showcase of the Immortals. The second match saw John Cena avenging his loss the previous year and winning the WWE championship from The Rock.
