Vince McMahon defeated Pat McAfee in an impromptu match immediately following the ex NFL punter’s heartwarming victory against Austin Theory at WrestleMania 38. McMahon did not take any bumps, as he mostly delivered clotheslines. WWE originally had other plans for the Vince-McAfee interview.

Dave Meltzer recently discussed WWE’s original plan for Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 38 on Wrestling Observer Radio. He said that the original idea of the Vince and McAfee interview was to do an angle. It was either Vince or Pat who didn’t want to do it that way, and the original plan was changed.

I mean the thing with, you know, the Vince and McAfee thing which did not happen though it was supposed to, I remember the people in the company were like … cause the original idea of the Vince-McAfee interview was to do the angle. And they didn’t do it at all, really. And I remember people from the company going like, you know whatever it was maybe Pat or Vince, it was one of them who didn’t want to do it that way, so they changed.

I was told right after they were going to do an angle there, and it didn’t happen, but I was told Vince is still… The idea of Vince doing the match itself probably wasn’t decided until the very end because I kept being told Vince is involved, he will do something, there will be an angle but what he does, whether it’s a match or not, is something that he’ll probably decide at the last minute. As far as them going there and doing those angles, that was always going to happen.

The original plan when first broached in February was a Vince McMahon match and the Steve Austin match and then as March went, being Vince very old and Steve hadn’t wrestled in years and years and years, and you have your doubts, and you don’t know what you’re going to do, and both of those guys are going to decide what they are going to do and Steve is an incredibly prideful man, and he was not going to go in there to fail. Like if he was going to do a match it had to be a good match.

Pat McAfee had his WrestleMania moment, not once, or twice, but thrice. The former NFL punter beat Austin Theory in a fun match, lost to Vince McMahon in an impromptu match, and got stunned by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. The SmackDown commentator described how Vince worked the crowd prior to accepting McAfee’s challenge for an in-ring confrontation.

McAfee also commented on his match against Vince McMahon. Pat McAfee talked about squaring off against Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 38. McAfee said that it felt like a simulation. Stay tuned to Ringside News for latest news and updates.
