Britt Baker knows how to juggle her role as one of the stars in Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling with dental duties. At 30 years of age, Baker is the AEW Women’s Champion and considered one of the pillars of the company.

The D.M.D sat down with Chris Jericho to talk about her NXT tryout. She recalled that former WWE official Canyon Ceman was absolutely insistent she completed her professional degree before pursuing a career in wrestling.

“Canyon, at the time, he was like the gatekeeper for independent wrestlers to get into NXT and he pulled me aside at the end of the tryout. He’s like, ‘You just started dental school, as a father I have a hard time pulling you from a professional degree.’

“My heart dropped, but I owe him the world because I would have left dental school in a heartbeat to go to WWE because that’s what I was young, dumb. I was like, ‘I don’t need a degree,’ I’m going to be NXT Champion,’ like that would have gotten me far, right?

“He stayed in touch with me like every three months after that. ‘Let me know when you graduate dental school. Send me your matches,’ and they always kept up with me and at the time, I thought dental school was ruining my life because I didn’t get to go do these like month-long tours in Japan.

“I got to go for two weeks. I didn’t even get to go to the UK until after I graduated. But now, you guys are all chanting three letters because I’m a dentist, so I’m grateful for whatever planets aligned that I got to finish dental school and be a wrestler. I’m very thankful.”

Baker will put her title on the line against fellow AEW star against Thunder Rosa at the company’s Revolution PPV event this Sunday (March 6). The third annual Revolution PPV event takes place at the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida.
