Ever since Matt Riddle signed with WWE, he has been one of the mainstays of WWE television, be it in NXT or the main roster. His in-ring skills are one of the best in the company and he already has good fan following. Despite that, he isn’t the easiest person to understand.

Matt Riddle’s character has certainly gotten over with fans thanks to his comedic timing and generally cool attitude while still being that of a stoner character. Vince McMahon wasn’t immediately on board with his character either.

On the other hand, RVD remains one of the most technically-gifted pro wrestlers to have ever competed inside the squared circle. The pro wrestling legend has competed in several promotions such as ECW, WCW, WWE, and IMPACT Wrestling during his career that has lasted over thirty years.

For a long time now, Matt Riddle has been compared to RVD in numerous ways and it isn’t just their mutual love for weed. While speaking to Sportskeeda, RVD addressed his comparisons with Matt Riddle and stated that he understood why people compare them.

“I like Matt, he’s a good guy and I can see the influence and why people would say that. The style that I used to do was fought against by the office a lot and now people flip over the top rope to the floor so much that it’s not really as exciting. I think it’s harder to stand out nowadays, especially when you’re trying to stand out with your moves. Matt has his own unique style of MMA that he brings. I used to wrestle barefoot when I started out too also, but yeah, he’s definitely a character that everyone is going to remember.”

RVD also previously made it clear he is open to working with Matt Riddle one day. Rob Van Dam was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame last year and fans will always remember his contributions to the pro wrestling world. He is currently enjoying his life outside of pro wrestling but could return whenever he wants to.
