As of now there are no confirmed matches for SmackDown tonight. John Cena and Edge have been advertised to appear tonight. After their confrontation last week, Finn Balor and Universal Champion Roman Reigns are expected to continue their program towards a potential Universal Championship match.

It should be interesting to see how things play out on tonight’s show.

SmackDown

SmackDown begins live in Minneapolis, Minnesota with John Cena making his way out to the ring. A video recap of last week on SmackDown shows John Cena’s promo on Roman Reigns and Reigns denying John Cena’s challenge, and Reigns accepting the challenge of Finn Balor. Cena says that tonight Reigns and Balor will sign a contract for a Universal Championship match at SummerSlam. Cena says that behind all the confidence, Reigns is a scared little kid. Cena says that he does not have a problem with being rejected, but criticizes Reigns’ reasons for rejecting him. Cena says that real champions try their best to earn the crowd’s respect every single night. Cena says the people stopped caring about Reigns and that Reigns needs to change himself every two years because he has no confidence in himself. Cena says Reigns is a product of the machine who is embarrassed to fail. Baron Corbin comes out to the ring and Cena pretends to not recognize him and says he looks horrible. Corbin says that him and Cena have never been close, but he is desperate. Corbin says his life is falling apart and lists off everything that has been taken from him. Corbin says that his wife left him and took his kids with her. Corbin says that he knows if anyone can help him, it’s Cena. Cena asks the crowd if he should help Corbin to which the crowd begins to chant no. Cena says there wasn’t a definitive answer and Corbin asks him to help him out by giving him an acting job in “The Suicide Squad” and Corbin even suggests being Cena’s stunt double. Cena doesn’t say yes to Corbin and Corbin calls Cena selfish and with an ego the size of California and calls Cena a Hollywood sellout. Cena drops the mic and picks up Corbin for an Attitude Adjustment and Cena leaves the ring with Corbin on the mat.

Rey Mysterio is shown backstage with Dominik. Dominik says that he will keep his eye on Jey Uso when Rey faces Jimmy tonight. Rey says he loves Dominik but he has made some rookie mistakes and he needs to step it up to get the tag team championships back.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Jimmy and Jey Uso make their way out to the ring as Jimmy Uso is set to take on Rey Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio VS Jimmy Uso

Our opening match on SmackDown begins with a lockup. Jimmy hits a shoulder tackle on Rey. Jimmy ducks a right hand and hits a super kick. Rey hits a series of punches on the corner and hits a bulldog and covers for two. Jimmy grabs Rey in a fireman’s carry and drives him head first into the ring post and get a two count. Jimmy charges at Rey but Rey pulls the rope to send Jimmy to the outside. Rey goes for a slide out of the ring but Jimmy rolls out of the way and hits a super kick on the outside.

*Commercial break*

SmackDown returns with Jimmy hitting a sunset flip and Rey hitting a kick to Jimmy’s head. Rey hits a forearm on the apron but Jimmy hits an enziguri to knock Rey down. Jimmy goes for a superplex but Rey blocks and knocks Jimmy down with a headbutt and Rey hits a senton and covers for a two count. Jimmy dodes a corner splash and hits a kick. Jimmy gets knocked into the ropes and Rey goes for the 619 but Jey pulls Jimmy out of the ring. Rey hits a corkscrew splash onto both Usos. Rey hits the 619 on Jey and goes for it on Jimmy but Jimmy catches him. Rey counters with a crucifix and Dominik holds Jimmy in place for the three count.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair makes her way out to the ring.

SmackDown returns with Belair in the ring with Kayla Braxton interviewing her. Belair says the past few months have felt great and that it keeps getting better and better. Belair is interrupted by Carmella. Carmella mockingly congratulates Belair and says that Belair should give her one more title opportunity. Carmella blames the lighting at Rolling Loud for her defeat, Zelina Vega comes out next and says that Carmella needs to slow her role. Vega gets in the ring and says that she thinks the WWE Universe want to see Belair challenge a rising star like Vega. Vega tells Belair to accept her challenge and Belair does. Carmella attacks Belair from behind and Vega joins in to beat down Belair. Sasha Banks makes her SmackDown return to run out and save Belair. Banks clears the ring and hugs Belair and raises her hand in the ring.

It is announced that 24/7 Champion Reginald will defend his title next against a mystery opponent.

Back live with 24/7 Champion Reginald being interviewed backstage. Reginald says that he has no idea who his opponent is but that he’s just glad it’s going to be defended in the ring. Reginald says that with how he grew up, trouble was always coming to him and that being 24/7 Champion is nothing new. Reginald makes his way out to the ring awaiting the mystery opponent. Chad Gable and Otis come out to the ring as Reginald looks on in terror. Gable grabs a mic and gives it to Otis. Otis says “it’s not me, it’s him”. and Gable attacks Reginald.

The match begins with a shoulder tackle from Gable. Gable hits a suplex into a cover for a two count. Reginald flips out of a lariat but Gable manages to slam Reginald. Gable hits a German suplex into a cover for two. Reginald goes to the top rope but Gable runs up and attempts a German suplex but Reginald flips over to land on his feet. Otis runs into the ring to attack Reginald and throw him over the top rope.

Winner by Disqualification: Reginald

SmackDown returns live with WWE officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville in the ring. Pearce says that him and Deville are present to ensure the contract is signed as efficiently as possible. Finn Balor is introduced and he makes his way out to the ring. Pearce introduces Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Reigns makes his way out to the ring with Paul Heyman by his side. With everyone in the ring Heyman sets up a chair and Reigns sits down as the head of the table with Balor sitting down to the side. Heyman hands Reigns a mic as the crowd chants for Cena. Reigns says that “we’ve already seen Mr. missionary tonight”. Reigns says that Cena must think that Balor is a lesser man than him. Reigns says that he doesn’t think this, and that he thinks Balor is worthy of challenging for the Universal Championship, and that he is also worthy of the beat down he will get at SummerSlam. Reigns says that he respects Balor but that if Balor signs the contract, Reigns will smash him and send him right back to NXT. Reigns signs the contract and Balor grabs the mic. Balor says Reigns thinks highly of himself and that it would be his privilege to return to NXT once again as Universal hampion. Baron Corbin makes a surprise attack on Balor and drags him outside and throws Balor into the barricade. Corbin goes in the ring and grabs the contract and before he can sign it, John Cena runs in to throw Corbin out of the ring. Cena picks up the contract and signs the contract.

Paul Heyman confronts Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville and asks them about what they’re going to do about Cena’s actions and Deville ensures Heyman that Reigns will defend his title against Cena at SummerSlam.

Big E, Cesaro and King Nakamura VS Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode and Apollo Crews

Our six man tag team match begins with Big E and Crews in the ring. Big E hits a belly to belly suplex and Crews hits a knee and throws Big E to the outside as Ziggler and Roode double team Big E.

*Commercial break*

Back live with Ziggler and Big E in the ring. Cesaro is tagged in and hits an uppercut and lariat on Ziggler and Cesaro covers for two. Cesaro starts to swing Ziggler and transitions to a sharpshooter. Roode drags Ziggler’s hand to the rope to cause a break. Nakamura is tagged in and goes for the Kinshasa but Ziggler counters with a Zig Zag. Crews is tagged in and hits a standing moonsault and Cesaro breaks up the cover. Crews hits an enziguri and German suplex and covers for two. Rick Boogs distracts Crews and Commander Azeez throws Boogs to the announce table. Nakamura dodges the splash from Crews and hits the Kinshasa and covers for three.

Winners: Big E, Cesaro and King Nakamura

Edge makes his way out to the ring after a video package recap of his encounter with Rollins last week.

Back live with Seth Rollins in the ring as a video shows Rollins attacking Edge from behind during the commercial break. Rollins yells at the crowd to shut up and listen to him. Rollins says that he is sick of Edge constantly taking from him. Rollins calls himself a revolutionary as he calls to show a video of recent events that Rollins has alluded to between Rollins and Edge. Rollins says he is not ashamed of anything that he has done. Rollins says that he did what was the right thing to do. Rollins calls himself the rightful heir to the Universal Championship and that if he can’t be champion, than neither can Edge.

Bianca Belair & Sasha Banks VS Carmella & Zelina Vega

The match begins with Belair and Carmella in the ring. Belair hits a corner spear and tags in Banks. Banks is slammed to the mat by her hair and Carmella covers for two. Carmella hits elbows in the corner and tags Vega in. Belair runs in to save Banks from a double suplex and Belair and Banks hits slide kicks to send both opponents to the outside. On the outside Belair picks up Banks to throw her partner to hit Vega and Carmella.

*Commercial break*

SmackDown returns with Vega slamming Belair to the mat. Vega throws Belair into the corner and tags in Carmella. Carmella runs into a lariat from Belair. Vega is tagged in and prevents Belair from making the tag to Banks. Belair powers her way out of a submission to slam Vega with a back breaker. Belair crawls to tag in Banks who hits a drop kick and suplex to Vega. Banks bridges the suplex to hit the Three Amigos Eddie Guerrero style. Banks goes to the top rope and hits a frog splash and covers but Carmella breaks up the cover. Carmella is tagged in and hits a face buster and Belair runs in to break up the cover. Banks counters Carmella and locks in the Bank Statement and Carmella taps out.

Winners: Bianca Belair & Sasha Banks

Belair and Banks celebrate in the ring. Banks turns on Belair and slams her to the mat and hits a series of punches to her and holds up the title. Banks plants Belair with a tornado DDT. Banks locks in the Bank Statement and taps out as an official runs in to force Banks to break the hold. Banks holds up the title. Banks again locks Belair in the Bank Statement as Belair taps out again. Banks holds the Bank Statement to Belair as SmackDown goes off the air.
