WWE had a Divas Title from 2008 to 2016, but that championship is no longer active. It was turned into a Women’s Title that was later split up between brands. WWE History is full of things that the company would rather not highlight. The fact that they called women “divas” is probably up there.

The company sent out a blast on Twitter that included them using a butterfly emoji instead of the word Diva. After all, that famous title had a butterfly on it. This was a stretch to avoid using the word “diva” by a lot of fans.

.@RealPaigeWWE defended the[butterfly emoji]-emblazoned championship against @NaomiWWE in an edge-of-your-seat title bout at #MITB 2014!

It’s great to celebrate history, but fans called the company out for going out of their way to not say Divas Title. Many had questions about why WWE would erase such a memory from history as well.

One fan write, “I do not see anything wrong with saying the word DIVA, on the contrary it is necessary that people who did not live that era and who are new to the world of WWE, know how all female evolution began from the era of the Divas.”

Another wrote a comparison of wrestling fans from years prior to now, “Wrestling fans 2014: ‘How dare you call them divas’ 2021: ‘How dare you not call them divas.’” Obviously, there were a lot of comments to go around.

You can check out some of the top responses below. WWE wants their posts to go viral, but this one caught attention for a totally different reason.
