WWE SmackDown Results – October 23, 2020

Welcome to Ringside News’ live results for WWE SmackDown, just two days out from the Hell In A Cell PPV.

SmackDown’s marquee match heading into the PPV is the family feud between Roman Reigns Vs. Jey Uso. Tonight before they meet one final time on Sunday night, Roman will address Jey after the cousin beat him with a chair. Chances are the two cousins will come to blows once again.

The only other announced segment for tonight is Otis’ lawsuit in order to keep his Money In The Bank briefcase from The Miz and John Morrison – who are now on RAW. There was a segment with Bayley scheduled but that has since been removed.

SmackDown

This week’s show opens with a replay of last week’s show with Roman Reigns brawling with Jey Uso. Tonight there will be “Tribal Consequences”. Kevin Owens is in the ring for a new episode of The Kevin Owens Show. Owens introduces his guest tonight, one of the best in the world, Daniel Bryan!

Bryan sits across from Owens and they acknowledge that they’ve previously beaten each other senseless, but Bryan says that’s what the greats do: elevate each other. Owens asks what Bryan wants from the future of SmackDown Live. Bryan says SmackDown has the best young talent in the world and he wants to see who will step up next. And on a personal note, he thinks a title defended every single week would be great for everyone. And he wants it to be the Intercontinental Championship.

Owens says he’s happy to hear that because he wanted to talk to him specifically about titles. Owens says he has never been a Tag Team Champion. Bryan says that’s because Owens has betrayed a lot of people. Owens thinks they should team up as Team Hell KO but Bryan isn’t too keen on the idea. Ziggler and Roode come out saying if any tag team deserve a shot it’s them, then Cesaro and Nakamura come out, as well as the Street Profits. All eight men start brawling as we head to the break.

Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode Vs. Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan & The Street Profits

We return to the match in action with Owens and Nakamura, and Shinsuke performs Good Vibrations in the corner. Owens counters Nakamura and tags Dawkins, while Nakamura tags Roode. Dawkins beats on Roode before tagging Ford and they hit a double-team back body drop to Roode. Ziggler tags in and clocks Ford with a dropkick.

The heels take control of the match and beat on Montez Ford, making use of quick tags. Ford eventually counters Cesaro and ducks him to tag Daniel Bryan, who comes in hot and fast with kicks and sends Cesaro to the outside. Bryan hits a suicide dive, then puts him back in the ring. Bryan flips over Cesaro but seems to hurt his ankle on the landing. He slides out of the ring but Cesaro goes after and slams his leg into the apron, then kicks it a few times.

*Commercial Break*

Back live and the heels are in control of Bryan. Ziggler takes Bryan down and Cesaro is tagged in and goes after Bryan’s leg. Ziggler is tagged back in and looks for a dropkick but Bryan catches Ziggler and sling shots him into the turnbuckles. Roode is tagged in and he slams Bryan’s leg knee on to the mat. Roode lands a chop to the chest as he places Bryan on the top rope. Roode on the second rope as Bryan knocks him down. Bryan off the top rope lands a dropkick. Both men are down and start crawling.

Dawkins is tagged in along with Nakamura, and Dawkins knocks him down with a spinning elbow. Dawkins hits a flapjack to Cesaro followed by a dropkick on Ziggler. Dawkins with a bulldog onto Nakamura for a two-count. Nakamura is sent ot the ropes but a kick to the face takes Dawkins down. Nakamura goes for the cover but Dawkins kicks out. Cesaro is tagged in and they double team Dawkins. Cesaro goes for the cover but Owens breaks it up.

Owens throws Nakamura to the outside and lands a Stunner on Roode. Ziggler with a DDT onto Owens as Dawkins clothesline Ziggler to the outside. Cesaro rolls Dawkins up and goes for the cover with his feet on the ropes. The referee sees it and stops the count. Dawkins with a spine buster, then Ford is tagged in and lands a frog splash onto Cesaro for the win.

Winners: The Street Profits, Kevin Owens, & Daniel Bryan

It’s time for Law & Otis. Otis is in the courtroom with Miz, Morrison, and their attorney. Ron Simmons is there as the guard, and the judge is John Bradshaw Layfield. The attorney makes to speak but Miz cuts her off.

The Miz argues that Otis has not and never will be worthy of holding the Money In The Bank contract, or the WWE Championship. He says he is worthy and sits back down to fist bump Morrison. JBL offers Otis the floor and he says he deserves the Money In The Bank contract because he won it and sits back down. The attorney says Otis makes a good point and Miz fires her. The case will be continued.

We get a hype video for Bianca Belair. The EST of WWE comes to the ring.

*Commercial Break*

Daniel Bryan, Owens, and the Profits are backstage screaming and celebrating their victory. Bryan is hyped and asks his pals to “fist him” but they laugh. Bryan is left alone and Sami Zayn approaches him. Zayn says he feels Bryan disrespected him earlier when he talked about what the Intercontinental Champion should be doing. But he is the Champion and he’ll do as he pleases.

Bianca Belair Vs. Zelina Vega

The match gets underway and Vega is reluctant to lock-up. Vega goes to the top rope but Belair throws her off and does a little dance. Vega kicks Belair from the mat but Bianca lifts her and body slams her. Belair drops Vega and hits a standing moonsault, then slaps herself in the behind.

Vega grabs onto the apron to stop Bianca dragging her back inside, then kicks her. Vega hits a hurricanrana but Belair cracks her with a right hand. Belair deadlifts Vega into a military press and drops her face-first on the turnbuckles. Belair hits the Kiss of Death for the win!

Winner: Bianca Belair

We get a promo video for THE FREAK, Lars Sullivan. The man is standing backstage with an oddly thick beard and THE FREAK will be live, next.

*Commercial Break*

Shorty G is in the ring with Kayla Braxton and she asks why he chose this match. Shorty says he’s sick of it. He can’t even get drafted, so if he wants to prove himself he’s going to do it against the biggest guy in the yard.

Lars Sullivan Vs. Shorty G

The match gets underway and Shorty ducks Lars to jump on the middle rope and dive at him with a crossbody but gets caught. Sullivan hits a fallaway slam, then throws Gable up for a huge flapjack.

Lars puts Shorty on his shoulders but G rakes his eyes. Shorty rallies and hits a rolling Liger kick, but a second is dodged and he hits the buckles. Lars gets angry and tosses Shorty across the ring with a biel and Michael Cole calls him a “hulking, ferocious, man-being.” Sullivan slams Shorty, then hits The Freak Accident for the win.

Winner: Lars Sullivan

After the match Kayla asks Shorty how he feels now and he responds “I quit.”

Seth Rollins is interviewed backstage and asked about facing Murphy tonight. Seth says Murphy joined the Mysterio family last week but tonight he gets his hands on him. He says Murphy is confused, like everybody, and he needs to understand the greater good is all of us. We all have a role to play and Murphy is a disciple. Tonight he will define Murphy’s role for him and that sounds like fun to him.

We see Roman Reigns sitting at home with Paul Heyman by him, and he pushes two plates of food away from him. He looks angry and shushes Heyman.

*Commercial Break*

Shorty G is sitting in the trainer’s room getting iced when Adam Pearce walks in and asks if he heard him right, he quits? Shorty says yes, he quits being Shorty G. He’s tired of being a dumb character that is defined by his height. He’s can’t be a smiling buffoon because it gets him nowhere. So he will become the man who can get anything he wants. An Olympian with a long list of accomplishments…and it’s long (innuendo). And that man is Chad Gable.

Bayley is in the ring, sitting with her SmackDown Women’s Championship. Bayley says she is annoyed because she can’t get away from Sasha Banks. She says she did eight interviews today and all anyone asked was about Banks. She says last week Banks said she is bigger than the Women’s Championship, and if that doesn’t show how big her ego is. Bayley says she is done with Sasha and she won’t be signing the stupid contract, so she can burn it for all she cares.

Sasha Banks’ music hits and she comes out holding the contract for their Hell In A Cell match. Banks tells her she needs to sign it and Bayley laughs, then lifts her chair and swings it but Sasha ducks it. Banks lifts the Women’s Championship and says she’ll give it back when Bayley signs the contract.

Bayley grabs at the title but Sasha pulls her in and knees her. Banks wraps the chair around Bayley’s head and stands on the leg, then tells Bayley sign the contract but Bayley kicks her. Banks grabs Bayley from behind, still trapped in the chair, and chokes her over the contract. She coerces Bayley into signing the contract, then kicks her. Banks says that, on Sunday, she will take Bayley’s title and finish what she started.

We’re back in the courtroom for Law & Otis. Morrison is on the stand and saying Otis assaulted him and The Miz. He says it’s hard to explain the emotional trauma caused by Otis, and The Miz gives him a tissue. Rey Mysterio takes the stand and says he was in that Money In The Bank match; eight guys walked in and only one walked out. Otis won straight up and he deserves his title. Next Asuka is in the stand and she screams and rants in Japanese while everyone looks confused. Teddy Long appears and says he understood her, to which Asuka says “holla”.

Tucker is on the stand and he says Otis is a sensitive man. Miz crossed the line and he deserves everything that comes his way. Miz asks if he can treat Tucker as hostile and JBL says it’s about time things got hostile. Miz questions Tucker about whether or not Otis neglected the Money In The Bank contract. Tucker says the only things he knows is that since all this started, Otis only wants to beat the hell out of Miz, and so does he. Tucker jumps up and Miz backs off with everyone yelling until Simmons tells them to shut up. JBL says he’s going for a short recess and Teddy Long is going for a pee.

*Commercial Break*

We’re back in the courtroom and JBL says something has been missing. He says he’s supposed to believe Otis is guilty for causing mental and emotional harm while creating an unsafe work environment. Well that’s comes with being a WWE Superstar and if it was a crime he and Simmons would be serving life sentences. And as for Otis neglecting the contract, he has a year to cash-in. So he must rule in favour of…

The Miz interrupts JBL and says there’s a key piece of evidence he has yet to show. The Miz lifts a black briefcase and Simmons gives it to JBL. The briefcase is full of money and JBL licks his lips. He says in light of the new evidence he has to side in favour of The Miz. Which means this weekend at Hell In A Cell, Otis will face The Miz with the contract on the line. JBL leaves and Simmons says “damn”.

We get a lengthy video package chronicling the Seth Rollins/Murphy storyline. Seth makes his entrance and this match is up next.

*Commercial Break*

Seth Rollins Vs. Murphy

The match starts with a stiff lock-up and they struggle for control. Seth forces him to the corner and pokes him in the face. They lock-up again and Murphy forces Rollins to the opposite corner. Seth shoves him and yells that he is the disciple, not the messiah and shoves his face. Murphy takes him down by the arm and holds him there.

Seth turns the tables following a stiff right hand and a headlock. Murphy shoots him off, ducks down, leapfrog, and drops Seth with a punch. Rollins looks shocked but Murphy knocks him to the outside. Murphy looks for a baseball slide but Seth avoids it. Seth runs but Murphy backdrops him onto the announce table.

*Commercial Break*

Back live and they’re fighting on the floor – we see the Mysterio family watching on a monitor backstage and Rey tries to get Aliyah to stop but she says she wants to watch. Seth gets Murphy inside and applies a bear hug. Murphy rallies and hits a leg lariat before knocking Seth out of the ring.

Murphy hits Seth with a dropkick through the ropes, then hits a dive to the outside and almost completely misses Rollins. Back inside and Murphy hits a Meteora for a near-fall. Rollins sends Murphy outside and he acts like he dislocated his shoulder and tries to pop it back in. Rollins hits him with a big suicide dive and gets him back inside for a two-count. Murphy rolls to the apron and Murphy slams him down by the shoulder – we see Aliyah looking concerned backstage.

*Commercial Break*

We return to find Murphy and Seth on the top rope and Murphy looks to hit a sunset flip but his arm gives out. Seth grabs him and hits a Buckle Bomb, but Murphy fires back with a quick leaping knee for a near-fall. Rollins drops Murphy and slams the back of his head, saying he disrespected him. Seth punches Murphy and the disciple fires back.

Murphy kicks Seth, but Rollins hits a roundhouse right and a falcon arrow for a near-fall. Rollins goes to the corner and looks for The Stomp but Murphy avoids it and shoves him to the corner. Seth hits an elbow and climbs to the middle rope. Murphy kicks him and pulls him off, looking for Murphy’s Law. Seth wriggles free, wrenches the injured arm, and hits The Stomp for the win!

Winner: Seth Rollins

After the match Seth grabs a Kendo stick from under the ring. Aliyah is shown begging Rey to go help but he won’t, so she runs off. Seth gets into the ring but as he’s berating him, Aliyah comes down and asks him to stop. Seth laughs at her and starts beating Murphy so she rolls inside and climbs onto Murphy. Dominik comes down as Seth leaves the ring. Dominik is arguing with Aliyah and Rollins attacks him from behind. Out comes Rey and he runs Seth off with a chair before checking on his kids. Rey and Dominik argue Aliyah checks on Murphy.

Paul Heyman emerges from Roman’s room after a hand knocks on it. The unknown employee says it’s time and Heyman says it’s time when Roman says it is.

*Commercial Break*

Roman Reigns makes his entrance alongside Paul Heyman. Before he can speak, we see Jey Uso in his V.I.P suite wearing a face mask. Jey says it must be great to be the tribal chief, and it used to be great to be the chief’s cousin. Now Roman has his head so far up his ass that he’s in another dimension.

The mask comes off and it’s actually Jimmy and he tells Roman that Jey is behind him. Roman turns into a punch from Jey and Uso grabs a steel chair. Roman hits him but Jey fires back with a superkick, then heads up top and hits the Uso splash! Jey leaves the ring, pumped-up and Jimmy joins him on the stage. Roman climbs to his feet looking angry and asking for the microphone.

Roman says it’s all just games to them, but they don’t understand. If Jey makes him quit he isn’t the Champion anymore, not the face of WWE or the head of the table. He won’t be the provider or the chief anymore. If Jey makes his quit he can live with it, but can Jey? When he makes Jey quit, he will fall in line, acknowledge him, and respect all that he does. If he can’t, they’re both out of the family. Their wives and their children, all kicked out of the tribe. Those are the consequences. Roman poses with the title a the Hell In A Cell lowers down around him, and Jey climbs up halfway to stare him down.
