Goldberg finally arrived in WWE after his contract with Turner expired. He was getting paid to sit at home and he wasn’t about to ruin that deal after WCW was bought out by WWE. Then his year-long run with WWE left terrible taste in his mouth.

While talking about this subject on the Broken Skull Sessions, Goldberg was quite candid about how he felt. To him, Vince McMahon’s mission with Goldberg’s first run with WWE was to tear down everything he built himself to be in WCW.

“I mean I spent the whole year there being defensive and it translated as offensive. It just, man in all honesty man, I just wanted to get it along. I just wanted to be part of the team. Hey, give me some responsibility — I can tow it. It was different.”

“What it felt like was they accomplished what they wanted to accomplish with me for the year was to completely discount what I had gained prior to that and then have me next to you [at WrestleMania XX] and have me fail miserably — You know.”

Goldberg returned to WWE years later. His second run with the company is on-going as he could still pop back in for a one-off match. His SummerSlam match also gave him sense of redemption.

That first run with the company left him feeling dejected and a little bitter as he shut out the entire pro wrestling world after Vince McMahon booked Goldberg into one disaster after another.
