Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair battled at Survivor Series in a match with less than a week’s worth of build to make it happen. But their contest was brutal one and was honestly Rousey’s biggest test so far in WWE. Rousey even busted her mouth during the contest which included chain wrestling, switching out of holds, and plenty of drama. Then Charlotte Flair had to ruin it with kendo stick shot and a post-match beatdown.
During the melee, Michael Cole said on the announce table that Charlotte was ruining a “five-star match” which is a direct reference to the rating system that Dave Meltzer has been using in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter for decades.
Meltzer commented on this little line during Wrestling Observer Radio where he remarked that it looks like Vince McMahon, who was the one feeding that line to Cole, has finally turned around on his idea of the famous match rating system.

“How do you like Vince going into Cole’s ear telling him to call the Ronda Rousey match a five-star match? That was Vince, Vince who hates that. He’s coming around after 36 years.”

Rousey was apparently upset with the Staples Center crowd for turning on her, but you can never expect how WWE fans are ever going to react to anything. At least WWE booked Rousey to walk out on her own without any assistance.
Meltzer thought it was very interesting how Michael Cole was able to throw in a reference to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s star-rating system and he’s not the only one who took notice at how out of place the comment sounded in WWE.
