WWE superstar and United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura has reacted to the death of Japanese MMA legend Norifumi ‘Kid’ Yamatomo.
The 41 year old passed away earlier today after a battle with cancer. Throughout the course of his career he put together an 18-6 professional record, and at one point, he was widely considered to be one of the best fighters on the planet. Yamatomo’s death has caused widespread mourning in the mixed martial arts community, with Dana White being one of the first big names to speak about the situation.
Shinsuke Nakamura, who will defend his United States Championship against Rusev on SmackDown Live tonight, posted the following message after the news broke.

The Japanese section of the tweet roughly translates to ‘pray for the rest of your soul’. It’s not known whether or not Shinsuke had a close relationship with Kid, although the King of Strong Style does have a background in MMA with a professional record of 3-1.
Deaths in mixed martial arts and professional wrestling are usually associated with the nature of the sports themselves – but this one will be equally as tough to take given both the age of Kid and the fact that he passed away due to cancer.
It’s a deadly disease that we’d love nothing more than to see be erased from this world, but for now, all we can do is continue to raise as much money for charity in order to try and combat it the best we can. Rest in Peace, Norifumi Yamatomo.
