As reported by ESPN, Renee Young and Beth Phoenix will both join Michael Cole in the commentary booth for the second annual Mae Young Classic.

Today marks the beginning of the actual filming for the tournament, but the coverage won’t begin until the Bracketology show on August 29th. As such, the news regarding who would commentate was always likely going to come out within the next few hours, with Young, Phoenix & Cole replacing Jim Ross and Lita who undertook the role last year.

The Glamazon is no stranger to the commentary table after sitting alongside Cole & Corey Graves for the Mixed Match Challenge, whereas Renee actually dabbled in some commentary during her time with NXT – with her work being well received by the majority of the WWE Universe.

The second edition of the MYC is set to build on the success of the first, which served as a celebration of women’s wrestling with competitors from throughout the business and around the world taking part. The finals will be held at the historic WWE Evolution event on October 28th at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

The women’s evolution has been growing at a rapid rate over the course of the last few years, to the point where many fans now consider the women to be on an equal footing to the men in WWE. Whilst that isn’t necessarily a universal feeling we’ve certainly seen a significant progression, with many of this year’s MYC participants, in particular, being heralded as potential game-changers.
