Dave Meltzer discussed the upcoming WrestleKingdom match between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio and confirmed earlier reports that the two parties have been talking since August.

According to Meltzer, Jericho came up with the idea after he saw how successful the Conor McGregor & Floyd Maywether fight was. Jericho said he wanted to have a match that the fans thought they would never see. Jericho approached Don Callis about his idea to have a match against Omega. Callis got in touch with Omega and pitched the idea to him. Jericho then had a meeting with New Japan Pro Wrestling in New York and they came to an agreement for the match.

Right now the match is believed to be a one-and-done, however Meltzer mentioned that they could have a rematch in April, but that would take Jericho out of WrestleMania. Meltzer doesn’t believe Jericho will miss WrestleMania.
