Reason WWE Is Giving Away Big Matches on Free Television

As seen on WWE programming lately, WWE has been giving away huge matches that could have potentially been main event bouts on pay-per-views — with the most recent one being Monday’s match between John Cena and Braun Strowman.

Dave Meltzer discussed WWE giving way big matches on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer believes that the only reason WWE is doing this is to combat viewership numbers now that football is back on.

And the RAW ratings will still suck

  • ScottyPNR

It wasn’t that big of match. It was boring.

    • Jeff Hart

It’s a Cena match that didn’t include someone who could carry him thru it.

      • ScottyPNR

Cena has to carry most his matches. Only styles nakamura and hopefully one day Bobby Roode will be just a few that will be equally Carry the match. He’ll have to carry Reigns too. Only to put him over.

        • Jeff Hart

yeah, he did a great job taking 16 suplexs against Brick huh

  • Shawn Puff

I tend to change the channel when Bald Cena is on sooooooo…

    • Sinister Marketing┬«

I change when Reigns is on lol…well pretty much everyone actually except Lesnar čśé

      • Dave Johnston

You stay tuned and watch boring old Brooke Lezzyner, and turn the channel with everybody else? You aren’t a wrestling fan then, you are a sheep.

        • Sinister Marketing┬«

Lol. I’m a shareholder and I know what makes me and the company $. It’s the beast incarnate. Not Dean Ambrose , or Finn Balor or the other tools . Everyone that cries about not having the title on RAW. Every week, it’s smart , it’s business. It’s all about the $!

          • TheVoicz

You’re one shitty shareholder to invest into the WWE period, considering how much they’ve actually lost in stock buddy.

        • Jeff Hart

Now there are a few people who like Brick and think he is the greatest thing since moldy bread.

    • L. Knight

… Cena has more hair now than he has since 2008, wtf.

      • jahwoo

he’s trying to take focus away from the bald spot…lol

      • NoGoodMickey

It could be the bald spot or that he needs “normal guy hair” for his role in the new transformers movie.

  • jahwoo

i disagree. lol. One match each show SHOULD be of that caliber..which we could argue about whether or not a match is or isn’t until the proverbial cows come home..but solid booking might prevent them from losing a few viewers? I’ve rarely to never chosen football over raw and if I have it was the college football championship…I’m sure I’m not in the minority as wwe viewers are wwe viewers…..although I may be atypical in that i watch other wrestling besides wwe (I know I’m not the only one but the wwe audience that watches wwe and nothing else…seems to get larger as the people who are fans of professional wrestling and watch wwe are shrinking…)

  • Jeff Hart

Yeah, I’m sure people turned off football to watch Cena…..AGAIN. The reason most people stop watching is because of him and guys that just can’t let go and let real talent shine.

  • Kyle Barbosa

This is false because they have been doing this for months upon months now

  • NoGoodMickey

Dude, this whole website is just an advert for Meltzer.
