Reason WWE Booked the Controversial Finish at Money in the Bank

As seen at Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view, WWE booked an angle that saw James Ellsworth capture the women’s Money in the Bank briefcase and give it to Carmella. This segment got a lot of people talking and that was exactly what WWE wanted.

According to Dave Meltzer, he wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this was clearly part of the plan the whole time. He believes that the reason they ended this historic match in controversy was only to garner interest in a television rematch.

“They pushed the idea that this first match was historical, then gave people an ending that would be anything but, with the idea of using that to garner interest in a television rematch where that first match result was negated.”

As noted, the all the women involved in the match will compete on next week’s episode of SmackDown Live in a Women’s Money in the Bank rematch.
