John Cena is widely considered to one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. The Cenation leader made his debut in convincing fashion 20 years ago. Cena squared off against numerous opponents during his Hall of Fame worthy career and came up the winner in most of those matches. However, Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect has also seen his fair share of losses, especially in title matches, against a handful of opponents.
Randy Orton and John Cena got to know each other in OVW. The two made their main roster debut during the same year. While Orton got drafted to Raw, Cena stayed on SmackDown and built himself as a credible main eventer.
The two had their first singles match on the main roster in 2005. They also fought over different titles during their illustrious career. Orton famously retained the WWE Championship against Cena at No Way Out 2008. He repeated the same feat later in his career.
Triple H is considered to be one of wrestling’s all-time greats. The Game had an illustrious career that saw him go toe to toe with the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels to name a few. Hunter set his eyes on Cena when the latter came to Raw in 2005.
The Cerebral Assassin failed to capture the WWE Championship from Cena in an all-time classic at WrestleMania 21. He successfully retained the title two years later at Night of Champions in 2008. The two delivered an underrated spectacle at the June 29th pay-per-view event.
Edge and John Cena are no stranger to each other. In fact, the two superstars carried the Raw brand for the better part of 2006. Edge won his first WWE Championship in an impromptu match against Cena at New Year’s Revolution in 2006.
The Rated R Superstar successfully defended the title at numerous house shows and premium live events including SummerSlam 2006. Many fans consider Edge to be Cena’s greatest opponent and who are we to argue.
Brock Lesnar belongs to the legendary OVW class of the 2000s. The Beast made his debut in 2002 and became the youngest WWE Undisputed Champion within a matter of months. Lesnar successfully defended his title against Cena at Backlash 2003.
The two would run it back years later. Lesnar took the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Cena at SummerSlam 2014. He retained his title via DQ against the Cenation leader at Night of Champions later that year.
Some fans think that Roman Reigns is the modern day equivalent to John Cena. Reigns is the most over superstar on the WWE roster today. The Tribal Chief hasn’t been pinned in two years and continues to maintain a dominant hold over the promotion.
Reigns is one of the few superstars who managed to successfully defend their title against Big Match John. The two squared off in the main event of SummerSlam 2021. Reigns dominated the match and beat Cena for the win.
