WWE have gained quite a notorious reputation for releasing performers without prior notice. The company has released more than a hundred superstars during the past two years, but WWE doesn’t always pull the plug on its employees. There have been instances where performers grew frustrated with their creative handling and asked for their release. That being said, here are six WWE stars who requested WWE to release them from their contracts.

Tired of wandering on the main roster without any solid creative directions coupled with a shoulder injury prompted Lashley to seek his release in 2008. WWE honored his request and he was let go on February 4, 2008.
Cody Rhodes is arguably the biggest babyface WWE have at the moment. Cody has been receiving the royalty treatment ever since he returned to the WWE at WrestleMania 38. Fans were shocked to see him come back because Cody left WWE on a bitter note.

Jon Moxley left WWE in 2019. His departure shocked many fans. As Dean Ambrose, Moxley was a fan favorite and fans couldn’t anticipate that he was leaving as he had been reunited with The Shield on screen after their initial breakup in 2014.
WWE announced that Moxley had requested his release and that they would honor his request. He eventually left after his deal expired. Moxley signed with AEW and has been a top star of the promotion to this very day.

Mustafa Ali didn’t have the best run with Retribution and then he lost a match in Saudi Arabia to Mansoor and he disappeared. Ali publicly asked for his release from WWE, but they didn’t give it to him. He’s currently in a feud with United States Champion Theory.
Roderick Strong started in Triple H’s NXT as a face before aligning himself with the Undisputed Era at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans in 2018. His stocks quickly rose after that and Roddy went on to win championship matches on the black and gold brand.
Strong is said to have requested his WWE release multiple times in the past several months. He’s been handling the stuff professionally so far. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next for the Diamond Mine leader.
