5 WWE Couples Who Broke Up In Real Life

WWE is known to incorporate real-life romance into storylines. Vince McMahon has been doing that since the days of Macho Man Randy Savage. While many stars entered into the holy union of marriage with their fellow performers, others broke up months and years after having dated each other. That being said, here are five WWE couples who called off their romance.

Buddy Matthews and Alexa Bliss

Both Buddy Matthews (fka Buddy Murphy) and Alexa Bliss have their WWE roots in NXT. In fact, the Goddess used to manage Matthews and his tag team partner Wesley Blake on the black and gold brand. The two started dating and got engaged in 2016.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t make it through the engagement phase and amicably parted ways in 2018. Alexa found love in Ryan Cabrera and tied the knot with the musician last month. Buddy Murphy is currently dating RAW superstar Rhea Ripley.

John Morrison and Melina

MNM were a top tag team at the height of WWE’s Ruthless Aggression Era. Two of its three members, John Morrison and Melina, were romantically involved with each other. Their off-screen relationship made it to WWE TV after Melina joined the main roster as a valet for MNM in 2005.

The couple split in 2015 after dating on and off for nearly 11 years. Melina explained her version of their split during an interview on the Ross Report, claiming the rumors about her cheating on Morrison with Batista led to the two calling their romance off. Morrison married Taya Valkyrie in 2018.

Matt Hardy and Lita

Matt Hardy and Lita are among the couples that dated in two different eras of WWE. The two met in 1999 and immediately formed a connection. Lita followed into the Hardy Boyz’ footsteps and joined WWE during the latter half of the Attitude Era.

The two dated for nearly six years before Matt discovered that Lita was cheating on him with fellow WWE superstar Edge. WWE capitalized on the opportunity and turned the real life heat between Hardy and Edge into a storyline. The rest, as they say, is history.

Triple H and Chyna

The original power couple of the Attitude Era, Triple H and Chyna did not start dating until 1996. The couple had known each other since Hunter’s time in Killer Kowalski’s training school. Chyna joined D-Generation X as their enforcer and remained Triple H’s sidekick even after he went solo and adopted “The Game” moniker.

The relationship turned sour after the Ninth Wonder of the World discovered Triple H’s brewing romance with Stephanie McMahon. The Game was involved in an on-screen storyline with the boss’s daughter that turned into a real-life romance. The two married in 2003 and have three daughters together. Chyna tragically passed away in 2016.

John Cena and Nikki Bella

The 16-time world champion had an unsuccessful married life that ended with a divorce in 2012. Cena started dating fellow WWE star Nikki Bella after ending his marriage with Elizabeth Huberdeau, his wife of eight years. Cena and Nikki’s relationship became the talking point of Total Divas. After dating for nearly five years, Cena proposed to Nikki in front of a jam packed crowd at WrestleMania 33.

The two were set to tie the knot in February 2018 but called off their engagement just a month before their wedding, which shocked fans. Nikkia revealed she didn’t want to force Cena into giving her kids which led her to call it quits. Cena married Shay Shariatzadeh in a secret ceremony in 2020. Nikki is currently engaged to Russian dancer Artem Chigvintsev and has a boy with him.
