5 Times WWE Opened The Forbidden Door

The term ‘Forbidden Door’ is being thrown around a lot lately. Fans can’t get enough of the proverbial door ever since AEW and NJPW agreed to a working relationship. The excitement reached fever pitch after several AEW stars made their cameos on the John Cena 20th anniversary celebration on Raw this past Monday. Titan Towers are known for their isolationist approach but that wasn’t always the case. As a matter of fact, WWE have a history of working with other promotions.

ECW was the third player in the notorious Monday Night Wars. The land of the extreme inspired many of WWE’s storylines during the Attitude Era. ECW and WWE talent appeared on each other’s shows in what was a wild time in the world of pro wrestling.

Starting in 1996, ECW stars started making cameos on RAW and on pay-per-view, with a full angle between the two promotions soon following. ECW wrestlers were fully brought into WWE’s fold after the Philadelphia-based promotion folded in 2001.

AAA boasts itself as the true representative of Mexican wrestling. The promotion has a huge following all over the world and continues to produce world-class talent. Mexico’s premium wrestling promotion once enjoyed a solid partnership with WWE.

Evolve gained attention for its working relationship with numerous promotions including Dragon Gate and WWE. Evolve was founded in 2010 by former Ring of Honor booker and Dragon Gate USA Vice President Gabe Sapolsky.

Impact Wrestling was once known as TNA. The promotion had an alliance with NWA in its early days. TNA cut its ties with NWA and became an entity of its own. Many WWE stars including Christian Cage and Kurt Angle also worked for TNA at one point in their career.

Former Impact Knockouts Champion Mickey James worked the Women’s Royal Rumble Match on January 29, 2022. Most recently, WWE superstar AJ Styles appeared in a video package to congratulate Impact on their 20 years in the business at Slammiversary 2022.

AEW officially opened the Forbidden Door on June 26, 2022. AEW held the pay-per-view event in collaboration with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Fans were super excited for the event and they weren’t disappointed, to say the least.

The excitement reached new highs when AEW stars Chris Jericho, Paul Wight, and Bryan Danielson sent their video tributes to John Cena that aired on the June 27th, 2022, episode of Monday Night Raw. WWE reached out to AEW for the cameos and Tony Khan agreed to that.
