AEW prides themselves on having a roster that represents their fan base. The company recently became the subject of some criticism about how eclectic their roster really is.

AJ Gray sent out a tweet aimed at All Elite Wrestling. He openly wondered how AEW preaches diversity, yet they won’t hire talented black wrestlers.

How u gonna preach diversity yet you won’t hire black wrestlers who are equally talented if not more talente…. AND NOW You won’t stand up for black peoples human rights?

I’m all the way good on goin to Jacksonville…..

Cody Rhodes did not directly reply to AJ Gray’s comments.

The American Nightmare did reply to a video of a quote that he gave following Double Or Nothing last year. While his hair was still covered in his brother Dustin Rhodes’ blood, Cody Rhodes discussed his interracial marriage and how you must see things from a different perspective to understand it. He commented on this video saying: “A valuable lesson for me. Beyond valuable.”

One fan replied to Cody as they asked: “When are the black talent in your company gonna be treated like main event stars? do you believe in the hashtag ‘alllivesmatter’? what is aew doing to make sure that their black fans feel valued?”

Cody Rhodes saw this tweet and responded the best he could with the space Twitter allowed him. He stated that AEW is the only pro wrestling company with an African American executive. Scorpio Sky was also 1/2 of AEW’s first-ever World Tag Team Champions as an African American wrestler.

One of our first champions was a black man. We have the only black executive in wrestling history as part of our core infrastructure as well. Our fans are beyond valued, I’d encourage you to watch my interview from this past week where I spoke directly to the viewer at home.

AEW is going receive criticism much like every other public entity during this time. Cody Rhodes is aware of the larger situation and social responsibility at hand.

AEW is about the fans which is a mission that Cody Rhodes wants to maintain. Hopefully his efforts to clear up this perception did some good.
