AEW fans were thrilled to hear Taz back in the commentary booth during the December 25th episode of Dynamite, but don’t get too comfortable—his return isn’t permanent. While the legendary voice of AEW brought his signature humor and grit to the broadcast, it turns out this was a one-night-only gig.
Bryan Alvarez discussed his return on Wrestling Observer Radio, revealing that Taz’s appearance wasn’t a sign of a full-time return. “Taz is not back,” Alvarez clarified. “He was there because it’s close to his house, and he can’t travel.”
Taz has been absent since October, following a storyline attack by Christian Cage and The Patriarchy, coupled with real-life total knee replacement surgery. His December 25 appearance marked his first time behind the mic in months.
The NYC taping gave AEW the perfect opportunity to bring Taz back in front of his local crowd, but for now, his schedule remains limited. Fans shouldn’t expect regular appearances from him just yet.
With Taz’s son HOOK set to take on Nick Wayne this Friday on Rampage, it’s clear the storyline involving The Patriarchy is far from over. But whether Taz will be back on commentary any time soon remains to be seen.
What do you think about Taz’s one-night return? Do you want to see him back in AEW full-time? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
