Tessa Blanchard made history as the first-ever women’s World Champion in Impact Wrestling when she defeated Sami Callihan at the start of 2020. However, her achievement was overshadowed by controversy that emerged around that time, leading to a series of issues. Blanchard has faced criticism for her backstage conduct, particularly in Mexico, which has further complicated her career.

Tessa Blanchard was previously deemed to be “nuclear” following several stories of backstage abuse. She began working in WOW Women of Wrestling, but even there, she had huge fallout.

During a trip in Japan, Tessa Blanchard called pro wrestler La Rosa Negra a racial slur before spitting on her. This was something that Negra later said she didn’t ask for an apology for as Blanchard herself denied the allegation.

While speaking on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan talked about his experience working with Tessa Blanchard. Konnan shared that his time working with Blanchard during her brief stint with AAA was difficult. He also expressed his displeasure with how Blanchard treated Taya Valkyrie, whom Konnan considers like a sister.

Konnan described Blanchard as difficult to work with, noting that she and her partner at the time, Daga, frequently arrived late to events. He recalled an incident where Blanchard disrespected Valkyrie and made a dismissive comment about Mexico, saying she was only there because of Daga. Konnan felt Blanchard was immature and struggled with the differences between American and Mexican wrestling styles.

“She was difficult to work with in Mexico. Her and Daga, who were living in TJ (Tijuana) together, would show up late for just about everything. One time, she badmouthed Taya, which Taya is like my little sister, which I did not appreciate. One time she told me point blank, ‘I don’t give a (expletive) about Mexico. I’m only here because of Daga.’ We’d be watching the monitor and 4:4 she’d be like, ‘Well, why don’t you do this and why don’t you do this? How come in Mexico they don’t do this?’ I go, ‘Because it’s not American wrestling, you’re in Mexico dude.’ … She was very immature.”

Tessa Blanchard also admitted that she wanted to end it all after her racism allegations. Regardless, it remains to be seen what will become of Tessa Blanchard in the end, as she has other things to keep herself busy with.
