GUNTHER saw a huge moment in his career at Bash in Berlin as he retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton. He has a brutal move set, but there is always room to tweak things a bit.
The Undertaker recently shared his thoughts on the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER, during an episode of Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway. GUNTHER, who has held the title for just over a month, has made waves in the WWE with his hard-hitting, old-school style. After one successful title defense, GUNTHER is preparing for his next challenge against Sami Zayn.
While discussing GUNTHER’s rise to prominence, The Undertaker praised the champion but also offered some advice. The legendary Deadman emphasized the importance of adding more heel tactics to his repertoire if he wants to avoid an unintended shift in fan perception.
“I like him (GUNTHER). I think he’s kind of a throwback to a different era. As painful as those chops look… you think he’s beating you down and which he is without doing a bunch of aerial attacks. It’s nice to see somebody grind somebody down and yeah, I think he’s gonna have to be careful… he needs to add a little more, I think, chicken sh*t to his repertoire or he’s gonna become a babyface much sooner than he expects. That’s just the way it is now,” The Undertaker said.
GUNTHER has gained a reputation for his brutal in-ring style, especially with his powerful chops, which resonate with fans as a throwback to a more hard-hitting era of wrestling. However, The Undertaker’s advice points to the modern-day challenge of keeping fans booing a strong heel who showcases genuine in-ring talent. According to The Undertaker, if GUNTHER doesn’t mix in more underhanded tactics, the fans could quickly turn him into a fan favorite, something that could affect his current role as a dominant heel.
The Ring General has a punishing move set, and most of his moves are bangers that could close out any match. Perhaps he may need to alter things a little bit, as The Deadman suggested. Then again, if it’s not broke, then don’t fix it; and GUNTHER is certainly not broken.
As GUNTHER’s title reign continues, it remains to be seen whether he will take this legendary advice to heart or continue to rely on his intense, no-nonsense wrestling style.
What do you think about The Undertaker’s advice to GUNTHER regarding adding more heel tactics to his move set? Should GUNTHER tweak his in-ring approach, or keep doing what’s been working for him so far? Let us know your thoughts!
