WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has accomplished a lot during his time in WWE, having a remarkable rookie year and going on to become a legend in the business. He gained favor with the likes of Vince McMahon, earning his trust in the process. It appears that Angle wants pro wrestling to return to more simple stories compared to what fans get now.
The Olympic Gold Medallist earned several accolades throughout his career, including becoming a multi-time World Champion. Angle has also faced many legendary pro wrestlers in his career, which includes the likes of The Rock, The Undertaker and more.
While speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, talked about wrestling’s evolution and how it’s changed from how it was back during his time in WWE. Angle made it clear that he believes pro wrestling should go back to more simple stories.
Pro wrestling today is a lot different,” Angle said. “It’s a lot more high action, a little more high flying, a lot of acrobatics, they do less selling, less storytelling. I just think that pro wrestling, these guys should go back to the way it was. Start doing some chain wrestling and certain techniques to make it basic, because that’s the art of the sport.
“It’s telling the story, having the good guy outwrestle the bad guy at the beginning, then having the bad guy cut the good guy down and get heat on him, and then have the good guy make the comeback and you have the finish. Does the bad guy cheat and win, or does the good guy overcome and win? These are simple ways of doing it, and the thing is, now we got complicated. Now you don’t know who the babyface or the heel is.”
Kurt Angle also regretted not having huge merchandise sales like Steve Austin and John Cena. He also recently turned down a WWE Draft appearance. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Angle next.
