WWE has seen a few people enter their roster from other sports. To see someone come from another sport to become a referee for the company would be a big change of pace.
Richard Jefferson, the former NBA champion, is expressing interest in expanding his journey as a referee. Those referee slots are treasured, and it takes years of training to make it in WWE, but he’s not looking for a long-term job.
Since retiring from the NBA in 2018, Richard Jefferson has taken on various roles. In 2022, he had the opportunity to serve as a guest referee for an entire quarter during a game between the New York Knicks and the Portland Trail Blazers at the NBA’s Summer League. It seems that WWE might be next on his list.
During a recent appearance on The Broadcast Boys, Jefferson discussed his aspirations for the future and revealed his desire to work with WWE. He mentioned that the next time he wears a referee jersey, it will be for the renowned sports entertainment company.
“I’m gonna put this out here live on The Broadcast Boys. I want to referee at like, Raw or WrestleMania. That’s what I want, I wanna do it. The next time I do any sort of referee jersey, it’s gonna be at WrestleMania or Raw.”
Only time will tell if his dreams come to pass. He tweeted out “Next WrestleMania,” so it appears that he has his eyes set on Mania 40 in Philly.
We’ll have to see what WWE does to draw attention to WrestleMania 40. Odds are, adding Richard Jefferson to a match as a special referee could be a very cool note on the Mania poster.
