Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder during his time in WWE, never realized his full potential in the company. He was subsequently released back in 2020 and in the three years since then, he truly became a whole different professional wrestler. That said, Cardona is waiting on a call from Tony Khan to make his AEW return.

Following his WWE release, Cardona went to work in various companies, including AEW. He had a brief stint in Tony Khan’s company consisting of six matches, where he mostly teamed up with Cody Rhodes.

Due to his increased popularity, many fans wondered whether Matt Cardona will make his way back to Tony Khan’s company. However, Cardona has still yet to return to AEW and fans have lost hope for that.

While speaking to, Matt Cardona was asked whether he would return to AEW. Cardona revealed that he is waiting on a call from Tony Khan as he is currently a free agent and is always ready to return.

“I mean, come on. That was so fake. Listen, I’m flattered, I think I would be great on that show. I think AEW, what they’ve been doing is fantastic. I mean, adding another show, prime time, incredible. It shows their growth, they’re on their way to maybe sell out Wembley Stadium, which is incredible. AEW is doing some great things, but no, that is not a true lineup. Unless Tony Khan calls me tomorrow. I mean, I’m a free agent for a reason, baby. I’m always ready.”

Matt Cardona even claimed responsibility for AEW’s existence. Regardless, WWE is also on his radar and only time will tell whether Cardona will return to AEW or WWE somewhere down the line.
