Aubrey Edwards Remembers Her WWE NXT Tryout As A Terrifying Whirlwind

Aubrey Edwards is one of AEWs most popular referees despite facing criticism. Before her time in AEW, she temporarily worked for WWE’s NXT brand having had her first national exposure during WWE’s 2018 Mae Young Classic. She recently recalled a terrifying spot during her time in the August tournament.

In an interview with Renee Paquette, she reflected on WWE’s tryout process that opened up the chance to appear on NXT. She described the experience as both “terrifying” but also a “cool experience.”

After helping out with NXT tapings and dark matches, Edwards was chosen to work a “ton of matches” during the August tournament. When she was officiating the match between Tegan Nox and Rhea Ripley, a particularly scary spot left Nox with a knee injury. Some quick thinking by Edwards led to her being called up more frequently.

“I’m just trying to focus on her but, at the same time, I don’t work here, so what do I need to do to make sure she’s as safe as possible? It was just a whirlwind of, ‘Oh god, this is crazy.’ And I think how I handled that situation had an impact in the other times that I got brought in.”

Aubrey Edwards later worked on several “Coconut Loop” weekend tours for NXT before making her shift to AEW. Had she stayed in NXT, she would have had to move to Orlando. Edwards is glad her job in AEW lets her live in Seattle compared to Orlando.

“I don’t like constant heat,I grew up in California and I moved away so that should tell you something.”

Aubrey Edwards was recently involved in a physical altercation with Jeff Jarrett at AEW Revolution. It seems like she’s ready to sue. For more updates, stay tuned to Ringside News.
