Charlotte Flair shocked the world by resurfacing on SmackDown. The Queen was missing from action for many months prior to returning to WWE. Even more surprising was Flair coming back as a babyface instead of her heel character, which she has portrayed for her major tenure. Charlotte recently opened up about the reaction she got upon her return.

Charlotte Flair was constant fixture for the SmackDown brand, reigning as their Women’s champion during the start of 2022. Flair even escaped with the title from WrestleMania 38 in an encounter with Ronda Rousey.

However, The Queen was not able to evade The Rowdy One at the following month’s pay-per-view, WrestleMania Backlash. Charlotte Flair fell prey to Ronda Rousey’s fury in a grueling ‘I Quit match’ losing her title in the process. Flair went on a hiatus following her defeat and would not appear on television for the next eight months.

The genetically superior athlete made her shocking return on the final SmackDown of 2022. This came right after then-champion Ronda Rousey made a successful title defense against the No.1 contender, Raquel Rodriguez.

Charlotte Flair persuaded Ronda Rousey to an impromptu title match and pinned her shoulders to the mat to capture her 14th World championship, much to the ovation of the crowd. Flair reflected on that night, being overwhelmed with the response she got. She spoke about this during an interview with The New York Post.

“I was very overwhelmed. For me to get overwhelmed out there, I’m usually controlling the emotions and the pace and where I’m at. I was just like, I had never had that comeback moment. I never had that feel-good [moment]. Maybe when I won [at] WrestleMania 32, but it wasn’t a surprise. It was a big moment in my career, but no one’s ever missed me. I’m always there.”

Charlotte Flair’s return as a babyface has been regarded by the WWE Universe. However, being credited for her heel work for the majority of her career, WWE management could very well turn Flair heel anytime in the near future in an attempt to let Charlotte go back to her roots.
