Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon shocked the world when he announced his retirement on July 22nd before SmackDown. The announcement came amidst an ongoing investigation by the WWE Board of Directors and reports of McMahon paying “hush money” to former female employees. One person who questions whether McMahon is retired is former WWE referee Mike Chioda.

On the latest episode of the “Monday Mailbag” podcast, Chioda suggested that McMahon may still have a say over what’s happening creatively in WWE. Although the role of Head of Creative has now gone to Triple H, Chioda is not totally convinced that McMahon doesn’t have any influence on what’s happening on television.

Do you really believe that Vince McMahon is really retired? All he could be doing is sitting home on a phone or FaceTime on an iPhone on a Zoom chat and he’ll be Zooming every day for TV.

Chioda made a surprise return to officiating when he was the referee for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament finals at AEW Double or Nothing. When asked if he would be up for a WWE return, the veteran referee said, “[he’d] love to do something” with them.

We’ll have to see what’s in the future, but it sounds like there are still some people who doubt that Vince McMahon really stepped away from the company he helped build.
