Dexter Lumis was one of the best things about NXT television for the past couple of years, especially due to his amusing storyline with Indi Hartwell. However, Lumis and nine other NXT stars were released by WWE earlier this year.
The former WWE Superstar had a series of memorable matches with the likes of Roderick Strong and Theory. He was featured in solid feuds as well during his time in NXT.
It was said that he was released because of his age. He now goes by the name Samuel Shaw and has been competing in the independent circuit. While speaking to Tommy Dreamer on his House of Hardcore podcast, Lumis reflected on his time in NXT, revealing that he is still in contact with Triple H and Shawn Michaels.
“I had a great relationship with Shawn Michaels and Triple H. I owe those guys a lot. We still text to this day and I have a great relationship with those guys. I learned so much from them, it’s insane. Another thing that made the three-plus years at NXT such a useful thing to me. The in-between stuff, when you’re not necessarily working, Shawn would always sit there and watch tape with you and be like, ‘Right here, you should be moving. You should be doing something, even if it feels awkward. Do something here.’ Once I started applying those things and he saw it, I feel like that’s when he started being like, ‘Sam Shaw, you can put him anywhere.’ I always wanted to be that. Be an attraction or someone you can rely on.”
Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell ended up reuniting during an indie event. It remains to be seen what is next in store for Samuel Shaw. Perhaps he might just come back to WWE now that Triple H is in charge of WWE Creative.
