Dark Side of The Ring revealed some of the stories that wrestling fans have often wondered about, without the wandering nose of WWE sniffing for anything that would ruined them. Just take the now infamous Plane Ride From Hell episode, and you’ll see wrestlers like Ric Flair and Curt Henning in a light that doesn’t softened their image but rather burns wholes into them. Dark Side of The Ring was unforgiving, sincere, and honest in what they portrayed to viewers. Now, it seems as if all of that is about to come to an end.

According to SES Scoops, WWE is currently working with Dark Side of the Ring creators Evan Husney and Jason Eisner on a show for VICE TV. The show is said to be unlike what viewers have come to expect from the creators of such an unforgiving project as Dark Side Of The Ring. Instead, the show will apparently have a much “softener and sanitize tone” which is what you expect whenever a corporation like WWE is involved.

According to a source involved with production, the format of the new show has been described as “campfire talks” about the old days of wrestling.

It was also noted that the partnership between WWE and Husney & Eisner is designed to create a show that more feels like a old wrestlers telling stories at the campfire. Nothing too revealing. Nothing that could potentially crumble someone’s reputation. Husney and Eisner is said have full access to WWE’s archive footage, as well as WWE personalities such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, who apparently has already filmed a project for them.

WWE having control over a project like this is concerning. One has to look at their Ruthless Aggression series and see how much they like to control the narrative. How much of that will happen here, who knows. We’ll just have to wait and see, but it’s not looking too good based on the track record so far.
