Tony Khan Wouldn’t Allow CM Punk To Relinquish AEW World Title Under Any Circumstance

CM Punk beat Adam Page at AEW Double Or Nothing to become the new AEW World Champion and fans couldn’t have been more glad. Fans expected another Summer Of Punk run, but that will not be happening. In fact, Tony Khan didn’t even allow him to relinquish the World Title.

Punk’s hopes and dreams came crashing down on him as he revealed that he is injured and will undergo surgery on last week’s episode of AEW Rampage. A new system to crown the interim AEW World Champion was made official as well.

While speaking on the “AEW Road to Kansas City” special that aired this week, CM Punk revealed that Tony Khan did not allow him to relinquish the AEW World Title.

“I probably wasn’t as clear as I should have been. I offered to relinquish the title, but Tony told me that under no circumstances was I allowed to do that. It means a lot to me that this place as a whole believes in me enough to let me just go get fixed.”

CM Punk is also unlikely to be out of action for long time. There is still no date for his surgery either. It remains to be seen when the Second City Saint will be back.
