Gunther had a solid run in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE by holding the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. He ended up losing the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36.

Gunther eventually made his way to the US as part of the NXT roster as well. Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser made their main roster debut on Friday Night Smackdown last month.

While speaking with Cultaholic, Gunther talked about moving from NXT UK all the way to the United States for NXT and the main roster. Gunther stated that he felt he grew out of NXT UK.

“For me, it was, like, I think I kind of grew out of NXT UK myself, and it was time to take the next step. I think the timing was right now, there were a lot of changes inside of WWE. Yeah, the timing was just perfect for it, so I went for it. In the back of my head, I always pushed it away from myself a little bit, but in the back of my head, I always knew, at one point, you’re going to make that step.”
