Cody Rhodes Explains How Instrumental Vince McMahon Was For His WWE Return

Rhodes and his wife Brandi ended up parting ways with AEW back in February. For a long time after that, fans simply wondered where Cody Rhodes would end up now. Rhodes also revealed how Vince McMahon was instrumental in his return to WWE.

Fans speculated a lot after that, as WWE seemed to be the best destination for The American Nightmare. That is exactly what happened in the end as Cody Rhodes made his triumphant return at WrestleMania 38.

Cody Rhodes squared off against Seth Rollins in a highly competitive 20-minute matchup, which saw The American NIghtmare defeat The Messiah for the win.

While speaking with The Ringer after his win over Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes talked about his WWE return. Cody Rhodes explained how instrumental Vince McMahon was for his WWE return.

“One of the most special parts of it was Bruce and Vince flew down to meet me,” Rhodes revealed. “If that meeting had not led to anything, if it was just a conversation about wrestling or sports entertainment, it would been great closure for the last loop – because I left here on the worst of terms. I talked all the smack on earth – but none of it mattered. It was just a case of [Vince] telling me, ‘you went out and did it.’

I remember saying, ‘I have to be me. It has to be Kingdom [theme music], it has to be the American Nightmare, all of it.’ To hear Vince say, ‘well, it’s not broke, that’s what we’re buying’ felt like vindication. It felt so good.

You spend all this time trying to prove people wrong who doubted you, prove people right who were on board with you – but on that moment, it was just closure on the first loop, and excitement for what’s next. I’m going to talk about it on RAW.”

Cody Rhodes also chose Seth Rollins as his WrestleMania 38 opponent for good reason. Now that Cody Rhodes is back in WWE after 6 years, it remains to be seen how he will be booked in the coming months.
