William Regal is certainly a veteran in the world of professional wrestling, who competed all over the world. He has been involved in the business for multiple decades as well and made a name for himself both as a pro wrestler and for his backstage roles. His health was also in dire straits at one point in time.
Regal had a horrible health crisis during the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019. The former WWE star had numerous health issues throughout his career, but none were as bad as his heart problem in 2019.
While speaking on Talk Is Jericho, William Regal talked about his various health issues over the years. This included the time he was told he was going to live only 24 hours.
“I went home two weeks before Christmas (2018). The last time my family was all together was 2018 for Christmas and I was in the hospital for eight weeks. I was given 24 hours to live. They were going to cut my leg off. This was January 4, 2019. I insisted on going home for Christmas. I had a hell of a year, 2018. Since 1998, I had pericarditis — an inflammation of the sac around the heart — it scars that sac. Your heart can beat, but that sac can lockdown. I might not have looked like it, but I trained as hard as I did and taking bumps, it kept that from locking down and going solid, the skin around your heart. I went to India, got really sick, and was out for a year. I had bouts on and off.”
William Regal is certainly healthier than ever before now and we are thankful for that fact. He is currently managing Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley as the two are now a formidable tag team. We’ll have to see how the two will fare under Regal’s tutelage.
