Last year, WWE released numerous NXT and 205 Live talents, which included Tony Nese back in June. Nese had made it clear he was excited about the opportunities following his release. Mark Henry also thinks Tony Nese lacks an identity in AEW.

Tony Nese had signed contract with AEW last year and fans couldn’t wait to see what he could accomplish in the company. Tony Nese is in impeccable physical shape as he certainly lives up to his moniker as the Premier Athlete.

However, Tony Nese has not been able to make an impact in AEW despite his excellent in-ring abilities. While speaking on Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall Of Famer Mark Henry talked about Tony Nese’s status in AEW. Henry stated that he believes Tony Nese lacks an identity and needs to find it as soon as possible.

”I think that Tony Nese is a hell of a talent. I would like to see Tony Nese develop more outside the ring. Tony needs more bells and whistles. He’s a guy that doesn’t jump off the page on the microphone. He seems like a nice guy.

I don’t want to just see a nice guy. I want to see an opinionated guy. I want to see a good guy. I want to see a bad guy. I want to see somebody crazy. I want to see somebody sadistic. Who are you going to be? Who is Tony Nese going to be? That’s the question that needs to be asked to Tony Nese is, ‘Who are you besides one of the best wrestlers in the game today?’ How many people look like Tony Nese? Not many. He is spectacular looking to the eye. How many people can just work any match, any style, with anybody, and do it as fluently as Tony Nese? Not many. So what’s the problem? The problem is identity.’”

Since arriving in AEW, Nese has largely been absent from AEW Dynamite. Nese last competed in a terrific match against Swerve Strickland on AEW Rampage, where he lost to the debuting Strickland. We will have to wait and see what is next in store for Tony Nese.
