Finn Balor is a former 2-time NXT Champion and has competed in high profile matches since his return to NXT back in 2019. Before that, Balor was working in the main roster for few years, where he was not utilized well. It seems Finn Balor wanted to go to NXT UK.

Finn Balor was called up to Friday Night Smackdown last year after his second run in NXT was over. He would go on to feud with Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship and failed to beat the Tribal Chief on both occasions.

Finn Balor was then drafted to Monday Night RAW as part of last year’s WWE Draft. He even sent a message to AJ Styles and Seth Rollins after being drafted. He had a few matches on the show including with Austin Theory.

While speaking on Mark Andrews: My Love Letter to Wrestling, Finn Balor revealed that he pitched making his way to NXT UK but ultimately, he had to go to Friday Night Smackdown.

“Believe it or not I actually pitched to go to NXT UK when they asked me to go to SmackDown…’cause I knew the time at NXT was coming to an end. It had been 2 years and I worked with everyone. There was not really much more I could do there, I felt. The idea came to go to Smackdown, and I counter pitched with NXT UK, and they said well maybe in a couple of years, but we need you on SmackDown right now.

For me, a move to NXT UK would have been the move. There are so many great guys there. Obviously [it’s] closer to home. I’ve been stuck in America for the last two years with COVID. It kind of heightened the feeling of isolation, in WWE and in that bubble, away from my friends and family. So there was kind of multiple reasons why I wanted to go to NXT UK.”

Regarding Finn Balor’s status, Vince McMahon has given up on his push. Finn Balor’s current booking will certainly disappoint fans who simply wanted to see him win the WWE Championship on Monday Night RAW. However, Vince McMahon’s decision is final and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
