Impact Wrestling is facing a major COVID outbreak. The company had to make changes to their Hard to Kill pay-per-view card after The Iinspiration had a close contact exposure to the virus. The problems seem to have only worsened since then.

At this weekend’s Impact TV tapings, a several wrestlers and staff were held out due to COVID protocols. That includes positive tests and close contacts. The news comes just after New Japan Pro Wrestling announced that they were cancelling all remaining events in January of 2022 due to concerns over the spread.

PW Insider reported on the severity of the COVID issues Impact is facing. There were several rewrites and changes made to make the shows work with the available people. Impact Wrestling has reached the peak of their COVID problems thus far.

“Impact Wrestling dealt with a lot of issues over the weekend due to COVID-19 with a number of talent and staff missing the tapings due to medical protocols, whether it be testing positive or being in contact with someone close who had. One source noted that COVID issues were the “worst they had seen” in a long time and there were a lot of pivots and rewrites over the course of the week.”

Impact is not alone in the face of the ongoing viral spread. WWE had to change the main event of the Day 1 premium live event after Roman Reigns tested positive. AEW had to change match last week after Rocky Romero was diagnosed with COVID. Every workplace is experiencing similar strain.

The outbreak couldn’t come at a worse time. Impact has its first real momentum since their working agreement and talent exchange with AEW expired. Knockouts Champion Mickie James is set to bring her title to the WWE Royal Rumble on Saturday. We’ll see if Impact’s COVID problem has any effect on that scheduled appearance.
