No one has had greater power or influence in the wrestling business than Vince McMahon. As he developed his father’s provincial company into the global WWE giant we know today, the businessman turned announcer turned on-camera heel turned businessman has dominated the whole industry. As result, there’s usually a continual stream of people dropping remarks about the long-serving WWE executive, and many of those quotes have recently included comparisons to AEW boss Tony Khan.

Tony Khan’s recent public lambasting of Big Swole after her criticism brought the scorn of fans. Now they are comparing TK to Vince McMahon Jr, so much so that McMahon’s name is trending on social media.

One user tweeted: “Can you imagine if Vince McMahon said what TonyKhan tweeted? People would be demanding Vince’s head on a platter but it’s AEW’s rich owner being criticized so there’s a lot of defending happening. Stop defending rich owners and their companies ffs #AEW #WWEDay1”

Another one said: “So it’s okay for Tony Khan to say that the reason he let her contract expire because she wasn’t good enough as a wrestler? All I’m just saying he could have said it in a very different way. What is Vince McMahon said something like this we would crucify him”

A third user chimed in: “YOU lack self awareness if you honestly said: “Imagine if Vince McMahon told a wrestler they aren’t good enough” HE HAS. With his ACTIONS. “Actions speak louder than words” Kahn gave her a chance. Vince never gave these people any real chances. That’s the bottom line.”

Big Swole slammed AEW’s lack of diversity, calling it the company’s largest fault aside from structure, to which Tony Khan responded. TK retaliated in way that sparked a lot of debate, and Lio Rush is furious about it. Big Swole’s contract expired, according to Tony Khan, because she wasn’t good enough. This led to fans drawing comparisons between McMahon and Khan.

McMahon is still playing a primary role in WWE’s creative decisions, much like Khan is in AEW. At seventy-six years old, it’s unlikely McMahon will re-emerge as a major on-camera presence, beyond the occasional TV or PPV spot, but he’s reportedly still playing a key role in many creative decisions, especially since HHH has been out due to health issues.

Tony Khan, who is 39 years old, is intimately involved in everything AEW does. Right now, his upbeat demeanor and regard for wrestling heritage appear to be resonating with many older wrestlers, who have expressed how refreshing it has been.
